2024 Volvo XC90 Redesign, Colors, Interior – The 2024 Volvo XC90 hinted at things to come for the Swedish automaker. The Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA) was not only the brand’s first vehicle built on it but also the first to invest wholesale in the brand’s Drive-E powertrain family. This year, Volvo’s second-generation midsize SUV, dubbed the 2024 Volvo XC90 and based on a new platform, is still its best-selling vehicle in North America five years after it was first introduced.
The XC90 is a roomy, elegant crossover that puts safety and comfort above sportiness. It seats up to seven people across three rows. The 2.0-liter turbocharged four-banger produces 250 horsepower, and the FWD T5 is one of three powertrain options, while the hybrid T8 is the most potent of the three, producing 400 hp 472 lb-ft of torque.

To kick off the new model year in style, Volvo equipped its vehicles with new features, including standard full-LED active headlights, a speed-limiting “Care Key,” and two rear USB ports. “Connected Safety” refers to the integration of car-to-car communication to transmit safety notifications such as a Slippery Road Alert and a Hazard Light Alert.
Starting in 2024, all Volvo cars will now have a top speed limiter with a maximum speed of 112 mph. Wireless charging, front park assist, and new wheel designs in a 19-inch size add to the 2024 Volvo XC90 advantages. Volvo has renamed all of its hybrid cars in the United States “Recharge,” including the T8 hybrid.
The inside of a Volvo, particularly the XC90, is hard to criticize. There’s plenty of room for everyone except those in the back, and comfort is stressed above all else in the 6-seater or 7-seater with three rows. Luxurious leather upholstery, warm color options, and an uncomplicated design are all characteristics of the XC90’s cabin, which is focused on a portrait-oriented display panel that stores almost all of the interior’s functions and digital instruments.
Volvo’s XC90 has a standard four-zone temperature control system, rear sun blinds, a panoramic sunroof, and heated power-adjustable seats, although the R-Design seats in the namesake premium are a little too small for taller people.
A turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a T5 nameplate provides 250 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque as part of the XC90’s Drive-E engine selection. An additional supercharger boosts output to 316 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque under the T6 designation. With a combined 400 horsepower and 472 pound-feet of torque, the T8’s Recharge engine, rebranded for the new year as the Recharge, is the top of the range. Whatever the powerplant, an eight-speed automatic gearbox distributes power to the appropriate axle.
The twin-charged T6 motor in our test vehicle gives enough oomph in every situation, but it isn’t the most smooth powerplant. Under high engine loads, the XC90’s engine may still sound harsh and agricultural, unlike BMW’s line of turbocharged four-, six-, and eight-cylinder engines that are buttery smooth all the time.
2024 Volvo XC90 Release Date and Price
The Volvo XC90 is available in a wide range of powertrains, seating arrangements, and options. The basic price for the T5-equipped Momentum is $49,000, up to $55,600 for the T5 R-Design model. Both vehicles may be outfitted with AWD for a $2,500 charge. The seven- and six-seater Volvo XC90 T6 Momentum cost $56,950 and $57,450, respectively, while the T6 R-Design costs $62,650. The seven-seater T6 Inscription costs $63,250, while the six-seater costs a further $500. Starting at $63,450, there are three options for the Recharge plug-in hybrid. These three options are the Recharge Expression, R-Design, and Inscription.
